Avenge Me of My Enemy

Avenge Me of My Enemy

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Saturday, May 16, 2026

Today’s Text: Luke 18:1–8

Key Verse: Luke 18:7–8 (ESV) — “And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily.”

God is not indifferent to the cries of His people. He is the righteous Judge who sees oppression, hears the groaning of the righteous, and moves in perfect justice on behalf of those who call upon Him. In a world where enemies often seem bold and injustice can linger, the Lord calls His children to persistent prayer rather than bitter retaliation. He teaches us to bring our wounds to Him, trusting that vengeance belongs to Him and not to our flesh.

In today’s text, Jesus tells the parable of the widow and the unjust judge to show that perseverance in prayer is not wasted. The widow had no earthly power, no influence, and no defense, yet she kept crying, “Avenge me of my adversary.” Her insistence was not rooted in self-confidence but in desperation and faith that justice must eventually answer persistence. In the same way, God’s people are invited to pray until divine intervention breaks the silence and settles the matter.

This is not a license for revenge in human anger, but a call to confident dependence on God’s righteous judgment. The enemy of your soul may mock, resist, accuse, or delay, but he cannot outrun the justice of heaven. When believers pray, “Avenge me,” they are not asking God to feed their bitterness; they are asking Him to vindicate His name, defend His people, and overturn what has been unjustly done. The Lord’s timing may test our patience, but His justice never fails.

The promise of divine avenging also requires spiritual endurance. Jesus ends the passage with a searching question: “When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” This means that prayer for justice must be sustained by faith, not by resentment. God’s deliverance is often revealed through the perseverance of those who refuse to give up in prayer, even when the answer seems delayed. He may not always avenge in the way we expect, but He always answers in the way that is ultimately righteous and wise.

Child of God, your enemy is not beyond the reach of divine justice, and your pain is not hidden from the eyes of the Lord. The Judge of all the earth still does right, and He will vindicate His elect in His time and according to His wisdom. Keep praying, keep trusting, and keep your heart clean while you wait on His intervention. What looks delayed is not denied; it is being worked through the perfect justice of God.

Action Steps: Bring every wound, injustice, and attack before the Lord instead of carrying revenge in your heart. Pray consistently and specifically, asking God for vindication, protection, and righteous intervention. Refuse bitterness and keep your spirit clean while you wait for God to act. Write down one area where you need divine justice and present it to the Lord today with faith and perseverance.

Quote for the Day: “When man delays justice, God still hears the cry of the righteous, and His avenging hand never misses the mark.” — (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Let Us Pray: Lord, You are the righteous Judge, and I bring before You every enemy, every injustice, and every wound I have suffered. Avenge me of my adversary according to Your perfect will, and let Your justice prevail over every hidden attack. Keep my heart free from bitterness, strengthen my faith to endure, and teach me to wait on You with confidence. Vindicate Your name in my life, and let Your righteousness speak for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
