Be Still (Part Seven)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, March 24, 2022

Today’s Text: Psalm 46:1-11

Key Verse: Psalm 46:10 (ESV): “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

Perhaps, it is not an accident that Psalm 46:10 comes up on the seventh episode of our theme of “Be Still.” It is possibly the most used text to represent, denote, preach and teach the message of stillness before the Lord when the going gets so rough. It tells us to silently and quietly wait upon God, without fear of whatever seeks to harm us. To be still here means to stay calm and do nothing. It means we are not to tremble. And in that calmness alone do we have our best chance, yes, our most glorious opportunity to have the clearest view of God. If you are a fearful Christian, you are not just afraid of the enemy; you are doubting God. Fear of the enemies’ power is an indirect faith in their capabilities. Whereas, any doubt in the power of God to deliver you from that situation and enemy is not just a lack of faith in God, but also a disparagement of His ability, government and person.

Friends, God sends this word to help our unbelief. He wants us to discover the power that is available to us when we let Him undertake for us. The statement, “Be still” is our most powerful spiritual sedation against all fears and doubts — helping us stay calm by faith in God’s ability. Learn how to do nothing, my friend. Stay calm when God says that what to do. When God delivered Israel out of Egypt, they did nothing. When he parted the Red Sea, they stayed calm. When they crossed Jordan, they did nothing. Ammon, Moab, and Assyria thought they were foolish to do nothing; but at the end, God was glorified; and His people knew that He was God indeed. When God defeated Satan and sin in our lives, we did nothing! O friend, for God to be revealed and glorified in that situation of yours, all you need to do is to believe Him and stay calm.

Quote for the Day: “The goal of Satan for bringing any trouble is to unsettle us. Christ’s goal in all such moments is to give us peace.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you that you never leave us in the hands of our enemies; thank you that You are our present help in times of trouble — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayers,
