Can These Bones Live Again?

Today’s Text: Ezekiel 37:1–10

Key Verse: Ezekiel 37:3 (ESV) — “And he said to me, ‘Son of man, can these bones live?’ And I answered, ‘O Lord God, you know.’”

There are moments in life when what lies before us feels beyond repair—dreams that have died, relationships that have withered, hopes that seem reduced to dry bones. In Ezekiel’s vision, the prophet stands in a valley full of lifeless bones, a picture of utter desolation and finality. Yet, in the midst of this fear of death, God poses a question that shifts everything: “Can these bones live again?”

This question is not about human possibility but divine capability. Ezekiel’s response is both humble and faith-filled: “O Lord God, you know.” When situations exceed our understanding, faith rests in God’s sovereignty. What we cannot revive, God can restore. What we have written off, God can breathe upon again.

God’s process of renewal in this passage is both intentional and progressive. The bones come together, sinews and flesh appear, yet there is still no life until the breath of God enters them. This reminds us that structure without Spirit is still lifeless. True renewal is not just external reconstruction—it is the infusion of God’s breath, His Spirit, bringing vitality where there was none.

Sometimes, God will ask us to speak into lifeless situations just as He commanded Ezekiel to prophesy. This requires obedience even when the evidence contradicts the promise. Declaring God’s Word over dry places may feel unnatural, but it is often the very channel through which life is restored. Your voice, aligned with His Word, becomes an instrument of renewal.

Beloved, no valley you face is beyond God’s reach. The question is not whether the bones can live, but whether you will trust the One who raises the dead. God specializes in resurrection. He can restore what was lost, revive what has died, and renew what seems permanently broken. The same breath that brought life in the beginning is still moving today.

Action Steps: Identify an area in your life that feels like “dry bones.” Surrender it to God honestly in prayer. Speak God’s promises over that situation, even if it feels uncertain. Take one faith-filled action today that aligns with believing God for restoration and renewal.

Let Us Pray: Lord, You are the God who brings life out of death. Every dry place in my life is subject to Your power. Breathe upon every lifeless situation and restore what has been lost. Help me to trust You when I cannot see the way forward, and give me boldness to speak Your Word over every dry bone. Let Your Spirit revive, renew, and resurrect all that concerns me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
