Today's Text: Joshua 2:1-21; Hebrews 11:31

Key Verse: Hebrews 11:31 (KJV) - "By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace."

By the time Israel reached Jericho, the city was on edge. Jericho was a fortified, double-walled city, tightly shut because of the children of Israel, and it was the gateway to Canaan. Moses had died, Joshua had taken over, and God had promised the land. From Shittim, Joshua sent two secret spies to view Jericho. And, it was Rahab, a harlot, whose house was on the town wall, a place where strangers came and went without much question, that hosted them. Being a woman, a Canaanite, and a prostitute is a triple disqualification by Jewish standards, yet she had heard what God had done; how the Lord dried up the Red Sea and how Israel defeated Sihon and Og. While the warriors of Jericho trembled but hid behind walls, Rahab believed. She hid the spies under stalks of flax on her roof, misdirected the king's men, and risked her life to protect them. God is still looking for those who will risk everything for faith. Dare to be Rahab.

Rahab teaches us that faith hears and acts. She did not just hear about God; she believed the report and acted on it at great personal risk. She said, I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and your terror is fallen upon us. Her confession was accurate theology from a woman who never sat under Moses. She declared that the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath. That is faith from a pagan city. Many in Jericho heard the same stories but perished because they believed not. Hebrews says Rahab perished not with them that believed not. The difference was not information; it was faith that received the spies with peace. True faith does not sit and argue; it rises and hides the spies, even if it costs your life. James says she was justified by works when she had received the messengers and sent them out another way. Dare to be Rahab, whose faith is not just in words but in courageous action.

Her faith was marked by a scarlet thread. She asked the spies for a true token, swear unto me, and give me a true token, that ye will save alive my father, my mother, my brethren, my sisters, and all that they have. They told her, bind this line of scarlet thread in the window. That thread hanging from her house on the wall became her salvation when the walls fell. While Jericho's mighty walls collapsed, one house on the wall stood, because a scarlet thread marked it. It is impossible to miss the gospel in that thread. The same color that marked her sin became the sign of her salvation, just as the blood on the doorposts in Egypt caused the destroyer to pass over. Rahab hung her future on a scarlet line, a picture of the blood of Christ. Dare to be Rahab, who ties her life and her household to the scarlet thread and refuses to let go, even when the walls are shaking.

Imagine what God did with one woman's faith. Joshua 6:25 says, And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father's household, and all that she had. But God did more than save her; He rewrote her story. Matthew 1:5 puts her in the lineage of Jesus, Rahab the mother of Boaz, who married Ruth. The harlot from Jericho became the great-great-grandmother of David and an ancestress of Christ. Hebrews 11:31 puts her in the hall of faith alongside Abraham and Moses. James 2:25 puts her alongside Abraham as an example of faith that works. A woman who was once known for selling her body became known for saving a nation. No past is too stained for God to rewrite. You do not need a perfect pedigree to make impact; you need a present faith that risks all for God. Dare to be like Rahab: a woman whose past did not disqualify her, whose faith risked her life to protect God's purposes, and whose scarlet thread still speaks.

Action Steps: Take a few minutes today to see what your own scarlet thread might be. What is that risky step of faith God is asking you to take that could cost you comfort, reputation, or safety? Would you, like Rahab, receive the spies, hide them, and protect God's interests even when majority stands against it. Intercede for your household and plead for a true token for their salvation. Do nothing to perish with them that believe not. Write down names in your household that needed to be prayed into the saving grace of Christ, which is the true scarlet thread.

Quote for the Day: "Rahab risked her life to hide the spies; God risked His Son to rewrite her life. What would you do the Savior who gave His life?" - Simon Olatunji (#quotablequotes)

Let Us Pray: Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of Rahab, a woman whose faith made her whole and whose past did not stop her future. Forgive me for hearing Your works and still living in fear behind walls. Today I choose to be like Rahab. I receive Your messengers with peace and I risk my life to stand for Your purposes. I tie the scarlet thread of the blood of Jesus over my life and over my entire household. Save alive my family and all that I have. Rewrite my story from shame to faith, from the wall to the lineage of Christ. Let my house stand when other walls fall, because it is marked by Your blood. In Jesus' most glorious name. Amen.
