Dare to Be a Sarah, the Mother of Faith

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Wednesday, September 9, 2026

Today’s Text: Genesis 18:1–15; Genesis 21:1–7

Key Verse: 1 Peter 3:6 (KJV) — “Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.”

Yesterday, the Lord surprised us with an uncommon and unsung Sarah, daughter of Asher who was a fascinating Bible example of quiet influence, who was a bridge between one generation and another. Today, the Holy Spirit is bringing us to the popular Sarah’s example: the mother of faith; whose life is a divine call to reverent submission, patient faith, courageous obedience, and steadfast hope. Sarah, the matriarch of faith, stood beside Abraham during an extraordinary journey that required leaving the familiar, embracing God’s promise, and trusting Him through years of delay. She was not merely the wife of Abraham; she was a woman whom God called, remembered, visited, and used to establish a covenant generation.

Sarah’s story began with a painful limitation. She was barren, and the passing years seemed to make the promise of a son increasingly impossible. Yet God had spoken, and His word was greater than her biological condition, cultural expectations, and advancing age. The delay tested her faith, but it did not cancel God’s purpose. In a world where motherhood was often regarded as a woman’s greatest honor, Sarah carried the sorrow of unanswered desire, but the Lord did not overlook her tears or forget His covenant. Dare to be a Sarah: dare to trust God when the promise seems delayed, dare to remain faithful when circumstances appear impossible, and dare to believe that divine purpose is not limited by human weakness.

Sarah’s journey reminds us that God often allows a promise to pass through the valley of impossibility so that, when it comes to pass, no one will take the glory from Him. When the Lord appeared to Abraham and announced that Sarah would have a son, she listened from within the tent. The message sounded too wonderful to be true, and she laughed within herself. Her laughter revealed the struggle between what she had heard from God and what her circumstances had taught her to expect. Yet the Lord did not reject her because of her moment of weakness. He confronted her doubt with a question that still challenges every generation: “Is any thing too hard for the LORD?”

Sarah’s faith was not the absence of questions; it was the decision to receive strength from the God who keeps His word. The impossible became possible, and she conceived Isaac in her old age. Her laughter of disbelief was transformed into laughter of joy, and the child of promise became a living testimony that God can bring life out of dead places. What began in sorrow ended in celebration, because the Lord visited Sarah as He had spoken. She also teaches us the beauty of a reverent spirit. Scripture presents her as one who respected Abraham and cooperated with God’s covenant order. Her submission was not weakness, voicelessness, or the surrender of godly discernment.

She was a woman with influence, conviction, and spiritual significance. Her life demonstrates that true submission to God produces strength of character, courage under pressure, and the grace to walk faithfully within one’s divine assignment. As Abraham’s companion, she left her homeland, dwelt in tents, endured uncertainty, and participated in the unfolding of God’s redemptive plan. Through her, the promise continued, and through Isaac, a covenant people emerged. She became a mother of nations, not because her beginning was easy, but because God’s faithfulness was greater than her limitations.

Her uncommon godly mark was made through a life of trust, endurance, reverence, and obedience. God is still looking for Sarahs who will stand with faith in difficult seasons, honor Him in hidden places, and believe His word beyond the evidence of present circumstances. He is calling you to replace fear with reverence, impatience with endurance, and impossibility with confidence in His power. Do not allow delay to make you despise the promise. The God who remembered Sarah will also fulfill every purpose He has ordained according to His wisdom and timing.

Action Steps: Trust God with every promise that appears delayed or impossible. Cultivate a reverent and gentle spirit without surrendering godly wisdom or conviction. Stand faithfully in your divine assignment and encourage those connected to God’s purpose for your life. Refuse to let past disappointments define your future. Laugh again with holy joy when God turns your season of waiting into a testimony. Honor the Lord with your family, influence, gifts, and obedience.

Let Us Pray: Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of Sarah, the mother of faith, who learned to trust You through delay, weakness, uncertainty, and impossibility. Teach me to walk in reverence, submission, wisdom, and steadfast faith. Help me to believe that nothing is too hard for You, even when my circumstances suggest otherwise. Heal every place where disappointment has weakened my hope, and give me grace to stand faithfully in the assignment You have given me. Let my life, character, family, and testimony leave an uncommon godly mark on my generation. May my laughter be turned from doubt into joy, and may every promise You fulfill bring glory to Your name. — in Jesus’ most glorious name. Amen.
