Today’s Text: Numbers 9:1-5
Key Verses: Numbers 9:2 (KJV): “Let the children of Israel also keep the passover at his appointed season.”
We are still on the journey through the divine “lets” in scripture. While not sure of how long this may take; we continue to count on the grace and strength of the Holy Spirit to get by. Like yesterday’s meditation, we are again brought to another Old Testament antitype of the New: in which Christ is prefigured as our Passover. As always, letter is the shadow of the spirit and the law the shadow of grace; and a combination of both points us to redemption. Under the law, people live in stringent and hopeless shadow of death; and any negligence or failure brings guilt and judgement. The Lord required the Jews to observe the passover so that they may set their hearts on their great deliverance from Egypt. The word keep is from a Hebrew verb meaning to deliberately, valiantly and efficiently observe something.
In like manner, each person today is required to deliberately and personally keep, observe, celebrate, embrace and set heart on Christ’s redemption. For as the Lord delivered Israel out of the bondage of Egypt, He delivers those who appropriate Christ’s efficacious sacrifice on the cross from the bondage to the laws of sin and death. To keep the Passover also points us to the necessity, essence and urgency of the event. It is a spiritual feast for all and should not be ignored or postponed. It is a time of salvation which has been set for each man to observe — a landmark moment of grace that must not be shifted or missed. For he says, "In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you." I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:3). Perhaps, this is your own chosen Day of Passover if only you can confess, and invite Jesus Christ into your heart as your personal Lord and Savior, Now!
Quote for the Day: "Just as Egypt reminds Israel of bondage and slavery; the passover reminds them of the Lamb of God that frees all from bondage to sin.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I thank you for your sacrifice for me. Please help me to love you more dearly, serve you more faithfully, and follow you more intimately. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
