Today’s Text: Deuteronomy 33:1-6
Key Verses: Deuteronomy 33:6 (KJV): “Let Reuben live, and not die; And let not his men be few.”

We have heard that righteousness exalts a nation, and that sin is the shame of sinners; and wisdom, the honour of the wise. Through sin, we not just incur the forfeiture of our spiritual rights and privileges; but we also procure upon ourselves the curse of death. Reuben’s story brings us a vivid picture of loss of divine covenant and the diminishing grace upon sinners (Genesis 49:3-4). However, in the same way as Moses desires that Reuben’s tribe should not perish and prays for its preservation and revival; the Lord is not willing that any sinner should perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
The weight of this Mosaic prayer is not on the physical reality of utterly dying out; but for the spiritual curse of the law of sin and death to be removed. The verb “let” in the text is past participle with both an infinitive not to prevent or forbid; as well as imperative to allow. This Old Testament text foreshadows a divine volition for all not to pass under the penalty of sin. Moses being, here, a type of Christ; the New Testament clearly reveals the new Messianic law of life — brought into effect by the sacrifice of Christ Jesus, which truly sets free from the laws of sin and death (Romans 8:2).
Quote for the Day: "The simplest explanation of redemption is God’s own payment to pacify His own wrath by His own Son’s propitiation of our own sins.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, let the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus make me free from any sin threatening my birthright to redemption and life, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
