God’s “Let” Diary (Part 97) — He that Hath Ear, Let Him Hear

Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, September 19, 2020

Today’s Text: Matthew 11:11-19

Key Verses: Matthew 11:15 (KJV) — “He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”

Today’s meditation comes to help us deal with one major misunderstood scripture. Indeed, what's going on here is our Lord had to take time out to address John's misunderstanding. Who can not or does not err except He who is God in the flesh. John, the Baptist or baptizer was a man of the spirit and had great revelations of God and of His Christ; but at this point was filled with doubts because Christ's ways were so different from the expectation of an average Jew. The Jews expected a violent or militant Messiah, but Jesus was altogether meek, lowly and gentle. Like others, John began to doubt if Jesus was truly the Christ. How would He lead a revolution that will restore the kingdom back to Israel if He could not use force and power to establish His Messianic authority?

Unfortunately, this John's fever survives even till this very day. Many Spirit-filled believer still hold this scripture in error. They promote violence in prayer using a verse that is actually speaking against it. None of us represent the violence; and none of us took or can take the kingdom of God with violence. But Jesus was referring to how the expectation of violence originated since the ministry of John, who was being seized, imprisoned and beheaded by violent men.

Jesus is like saying: why does everybody seems to think my kingdom is to be established by violence? Why are you all disposed violently to hasten the kingdom into premature existence. You are not violent men. You are not the violent that seek to take the preaching of the kingdom of heaven from people by force. Or do you not know the spirit that you are given?! Do you not know we are disciples of a Savior whose yoke is easy and expects us to be gentle as a dove? Be in the right and sharpen the edge of your theology. Let him who has ear hear this.

Quote for the Day: "One should wonder why some Christians think they are the violent men that take the kingdom of heaven by force!” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord, give me a heart like Yours, a thirst for Your truth, and ears for You , in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
