Today's Text: Ephesians 6:1-3
Key Verse: John 17:21 (ESV): “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise).”

Early on thus father's day, I was reminiscing my time with my dad before he went to glory. I was filled with gratitude that I can confidently say that I honored him. He was in every manner worthy of double the honor I could accord him before the reaper took him. But memories flood my heart with wisdom that just as a sturdy foundation supports a house, that is how honoring our fathers provides strong spiritual foundation for our lives and the generations that follow. This honor extends beyond mere obedience; it encompasses deep respect, appreciation, and a willing submission to their guidance. This is a biblical principle that is not only a divine command but also carries a profound promise of a long and prosperous life.
The Bible consistently emphasizes the importance of honoring parents, and this principle extends spiritually to those God has placed as fathers in our faith regardless of their age. They are instrumental in our spiritual growth, offering wisdom, guidance, and correction. Just as a child thrives under the loving care and instruction of their earthly parents, so too do believers flourish under the spiritual tutelage of their fathers in the Lord. Unfortunately, a spirit of rebellion and disrespect is prevalent in our time, eroding the very fabric of spiritual authority and hindering the blessings associated with honor.
As we celebrate this year's father's day, God is bringing today's text tobour attention. He is calling us to something that requires complete humility. Something our age is missing bad. God is calling us to teachability, and a recognition of spiritual parents' God-given role. God places them in our lives to listen to their counsel, respect their experience, and support their ministry. And, if we carefully consider the full import of this text, we'd see it's blessing to us if we honor them. It creates an environment where God's blessings can flow freely, impacting not only our individual lives but also the wider body of Christ.
Action Steps: Reflect on the spiritual fathers God has placed in your life and intentionally express your honor and appreciation for them. This could be through prayer, encouragement, or practical support. Be open to guidance and correction that comes from a place of love. Pray that God will strengthen them, and grant them wisdom, and protection as they lead.
Quote for the Day: "The honor we bequet to our spiritual fathers is an acknowledgement of God's ordained structure for growth. The more we do it, the more it unlocks promises of abundant life and favor." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Let Us Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for placing spiritual fathers in our lives to guide and nurture us. Help us to genuinely honor them with respect and obedience. Teach us to recognize Your hand in their leadership. O, grant us, eternal Father, the humility to receive godly fathers' wisdom and the grace to live in a way that brings You glory — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
