Godly Mothers Wanted

Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, May 10, 2020

Today’s Text: 2 Timothy 1:1-14

Key Verse: 2 Timothy 1:5 (ASV): Having been reminded of the unfeigned faith that is in thee; which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and, I am persuaded, in thee also.”

On every Mother’s Day, I can’t but miss my amazing beloved, precious and virtuous mother, who had gone ahead to her rewards in the presence of the Lord. Her exemplary lifestyle always reminds me of the biblical grandmother and mother; whose godly virtues influenced the young Timothy to succeed in leading the troubled church of Ephesus.

Than any other time in history, we all need, today, the seed which our godly grandmothers and mothers plant in us by acquainting us with the sacred writings from childhood. Nothing is more influential upon a child’s frame, faith and fate as the touch of a godly mother, who first exercises sincere faith of her own, and then shares the same with her children and grandchildren.

The questions every mother and grandmother (or parents in general) should ask on this Mothers Day are: If Timothy were yours to raise what would his commitment to God's Word be like? What foundation would he get? And what will become of his place in the much needed godly influence in Ephesus? We need more godly mothers. What about you? Happy Mothers’ Day!
