Today’s Text: Psalm 34:17-19
Key Verse: Psalm 34:15 (ESV): “The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous
and his ears toward their cry.”

One of the most profound marks of modern technology is surveillance. Security experts have been able to put into our hands mechanisms to monitor activities going on even in the darkest hours of the night. And as far as this is in place, we think we have needed security to protect our hard-gotten property. But the most important thing for us to note is that the eyes of these security cams and all the complex surveillance systems are deliberately to watch wicked people and their activities. But it is interesting to know that God’s security system is oriented differently. Eyes and faces of the Lord are described differently. His eyes is used in the sense of paying attention and showing mercy; while His face is used in terms of showing anger. Anger is often discovered in a person’s face. This scripture tells us that God’s eyes are turned away from, or against, the wicked; and that it follows the righteous.
In the theology of Job’s friends God does not take His eyes (i.e., paying attention and showing mercy) away from the righteous. Instead, He favors them and enthrones them with kings, and exalts them. For St. Peter, the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are inclined to their prayer. But His face is against those who do evil. So, whenever the devil seeks to assault your mind to shake off your confidence in God, and fights to fill you with negative thoughts to discourage you. Do not give in to Satan’s lies. In your most discouraging moments, your greatest strength is in the fact that God is watches you. In your most gloomy moment, He watches you. The Lord watches and protects the righteous. Yes, He will watch over you and and defend you.
Quote for the Day: “God keeps His people by the agency of His watchful eyes. By His eyes we are watched and in His hands we are secure without fail.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, You are my hiding place, and under Your wings I can always find refuge; I pray for Your protection both night and day. Let not your watching eyes be taken away from me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
