Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, April 10, 2022

Today’s Text: Mark 11:1-10

Key Verse: Mark 11:9 (ESV): “And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”

I doubt if there is any teaching of the Bible more difficult than that of the Easter story.

It’s quite easy to teach the story to children in the Sunday School because though ask more questions, they accept truth easily. So, how hard is it to unravel the Easter mystery? Why should, and how can Jesus’ death be a satisfactory propitiation for the sins of the world. Well, His triumphal entry into Jerusalem is our first step in the ladder of Easter’s spiritual mysteries. As churches across the globe celebrate Jesus Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem, popularly known as Palm Sunday, today, we are drawn to the spiritual lesson of humility. Why ride on a donkey when you are a king going forth in your triumph? We are reminded of our Lord’s example of humility. Most kings would enter in their reign, display their glory and flaunt their powers. Though Jesus was God, He humbled Himself to a state of an ordinary human, a servant. We must toll the path of humility if we are indeed his followers. In Him we are kings, but different kind of kings. Like Jesus we must not be interested in usurping powers and lording it over people. Even when the crowds pomp us to that error, we must always learn to go the donkey way.

Prayer: Dear Lord, meek and humble of heart, and example for all creation. Please deliver me from the desire of being esteemed. Heal me, Lord, from self destroying ego— in Jesus’ name. Amen.
