Today’s Text: 2 Corinthians 10:1-18
Key Verses: 2 Corinthians 10:18 (KJV) — “For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.”

Do most of us not usually assume that the thorns we feel most in our flesh come mostly from some known or unknown adversaries? But how often haveq we been disappointed when it turn out to be the opposite? Especially when it happens that our professed friends and allies are those causing us pain. Our text today helps us see that if we have ever been jolted to such regrettable corner, we are never alone. Great patriarchs of faith such as Apostle Paul frequently grappled with what he (Paul) described as false brethren, whom he trusted; but who both secretly and publicly discredit or disparage his apostleship, ability and authority.
Like me, if you ever find yourself in Paul's shoes, you too are likely wanting to put up some self defense and seek a way to vindicate yourself before your brethren; but before you try, please look at Paul’s example in verses 12-18. He teaches us just how foolish and unwarranted it is trying to judge our own character by our own opinions; or seeking to vindicate ourselves in the place of God. No student examines him/herself by devising his/her own guidelines. In the same way, when we are brought under unfair human censures, we must remember that our only fair vindicator is God. He is the only righteous judge without wavering or any shadow of turning. We are who He says we are. We can be and do what He says we can.
Our lives are open before Him. Or is it not written? “Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.” (Hebrews 4:13)
So, wether worldly men acurse or applaud us; or false brethren barrage us with real life thorns in our flesh; we must be careful not to be drawn into self-adulation and vindication because of what we have done in the Lord’s service. The Lord is your commissioner and commander.Let Him also be the commander. It is He who made us and not we ourselves. He is our caller, and He is also our judge. Let us desist from seeking to meet with men’s approval. The Apostle cautions us that what should matter to us is that we are approved by God; and not that we are approved or rejected by men. Even when we feel that men have hurt us; let us learn not to pass quick judgment on them, but let God be the judge in accordance with His character, and not according to your own anger.
Quote for the Day: ”Always pursue self appraisal; but never self praise. The earlier gives you grace before the Lord; the latter opposes you.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Teach me, Lord, how not to seek revenge or redress. Give me the joy of prace when accounted for Your sake as sheep for the slaughter, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
