Today’s Text: Proverbs 18:22-24
Key Verse: Proverbs 18:24 (NKJV): “A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
The more individualistic we become the more we all are learning the value of lost place and essence of relationship. Our world has so much become like a battlefield. And while our neighborhoods are filled with sophisticated people, homes and equipments, each of us live as if we are in a lonely jungle. No doubt, having good friends, family and people around us makes life much better. Good people around offer us opportunity to be able to share our honest opinion of life — our ups and downs, our fears, joy, victories, our spiritual experiences, and our greatest intimacies. These are the blessings of good friendship, which the Lord already blessed us with. We do not have to be alone. We don’t need that loneliness and depression in our lives.
There is always a friend closer than a brother, who makes talking and listening, giving and receiving, loving and being loved altogether so beautiful for us. God has placed someone like that in each person’s life, and it is both our opportunity and responsibility to find them. Lastly, Jesus made room for everyone — all types of people —Jews Greeks, slaves, free, males, females, rich and poor. He is any man’s greatest friend. No greater love has a person than the fact that what Jesus did: He laid down His life for us, His friends. In Him we find a friend in God, are we are all friends and heirs together with Him. All we need is make more room for one another.
Quote for the Day: “Quit suspecting everyone. Be a friend, and you will find many in return." (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for being our Friend who sticks closer than a brother. You are our example of true friendship — You laid down Your life for us to bring us into eternal friendship with God. Please make us, each day, tangible representation of Your love and care for others — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
