Mid Year Revival Cry (Part Three): Responsiveness to God's Word

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, June 8, 2023

Today’s Text: Habakkuk 3:1-16

Key Verses: Habakkuk 3:2 (ESV): “O Lord, I have heard the report of you, and your work, O Lord, do I fear. In the midst of the years revive it; in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy.”

When God is about to set His men on a journey toward revival, the first blessing that He sends ahead is His word. Having been aware of the presence of God, a readiness to receive from Him must follow. When we have a sense of God's presence and we are ready to respond to His word, it imparts a new authority to His truth. It is our heart felt “O Lord, I have heard” or “once have thought spoken, twice have I heard” that promote the fire of revival that our generation need and miss. It is what is required to for Scriptures to strike new chords deep down within our spirits.

Habakkuk’s confession, “O Lord, I have heard..” tells of something deeper than listening to a eulogy. It describes an experience of when God’s word hits the inward ear of the heart. When the Lord speaks and His word searches its recipients to the depth of their being. Or, isn’t the word of God living, active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit..? When God’s people gets to this point of responsiveness to God’s word, they are set for a widespread genuine divine revival. Yes, when the word of God is embraced by faith, men's consciences are pricked and the result is a massive cry for, and experience of revival. As with Habakkuk, man’s major precursor for revival is primarily hearing God’s word.

Quote for the Day: “A true revival is laid up in store, and ready to shoot forth when God’s people respond correctly to God’s word and pray.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, this age has been through seasons of spiritual drought. And our hearts thirsty, eager and genuinely longing for Your truth.  O Lord, please pour forth Your Spirit of truth and revive our responsiveness — in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
