Quit You Like Men (Part Two)

Today’s Text: 1 Corinthians 16:13-14

Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 16:13 (KJV): “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men”

Several words biblical words come to the modern ears and sound really strange because of the changes the words have undergone with time. Today, quit means to give up, but in the days and context in which it comes to us from the Bible, it means to conduct oneself in a expected manner. There are so many things in our life and in this life generally that we can’t control—what friends and foes will do to us; who stays and leaves us in really low moments of our life; or how smooth our pathway will be.

However, the apostle is admonishing us to rise in courage And live in the manner we are expected in keeping with our stand in faith. It is an admonition to be courageous rather than cower under situations sent on our way. Act like men—a man is not expected to be a coward. Be strong and stand in faith. You are never expected or permitted to be timid or alarmed at whatever is going on outside of you. You cannot control what’s on the outside, but you can intro what’s in the inside of you, and how you react to what’s outside. You are charged to be bold and courageous as become a follower of Jesus, who endured the cross.

Prayer: Dear Lord, touch me, and fill me with strength when I am weak, love when I feel forsaken, courage when I am afraid, wisdom when folly looms, comfort when I feel alone, hope during rejection, and peace when troubles burble, in Jesus name. Amen.
