Restoring Faulty Foundations (Part One)

Our Text: Psalm 11:1-7

Key Verses: Psalm 11:3 (ESV): _“If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?”

There is almost no more doubt that our world stands and gropes in a state of emergency. We are clearly at war—within and without; and there is an obvious continued design of our enemy to cover the race in thick and unrestrained darkness. To achieve his design, the devil attacks the foundation of gospel truth and shifts the landmark of godliness. The very foundations of apostolic doctrines are almost already past being under attacks but in a state of being destroyed. It seems to me that the Psalmist saw a prophetic glimpse of this present perilous time.

When he (the Psalmist) did, he was not in confusion as to whether the remnant of righteousness can do anything about this precarious situation or not. Understanding what exactly he needs to do was his concern. Hence the question: “what can the righteous do?” But though his heart fails him that things seem beyond repair, the Bible is clear about what the righteous can do. The righteous can humble himself under God’s hand, pray for the removal of His judgment, seek His face and repent from his wicked ways, and those of his age — then God will hear us, forgive the sins that brought judgment upon us, and heal our land again.
