Today’s Text: 1 Kings 19:9-18
Key Verses: 1 Kings 19:15, 16 (NIV) — “The Lord said to him, “Go back the way you came, and go to the Desert of Damascus. When you get there, anoint Hazael king over Aram. 16 Also, anoint Jehu son of Nimshi king over Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah.”
God is always out seeking to restore His children all through history. Entirety of scriptures is a clear revelation of how He seeks to save and bring lost humanity back to Himself. When Adam dropped out of the fellowship with Him, He sought Him out of his hiding. In the New Testament case of Apostle Peter, the Lord graciously interceded for him and restores him to feed his sheep. We can be grateful that our God is gracious, and does not leave us to our own devices. Sometimes, He lets us have our ways; but not althrough. For us today, “go back the way you came” is a direct call to retrace our steps. It is a call to retreat from the bleating of the sheep back to our battlefield or harvest field for souls.
Friends, none of us can run so fast or far enough to escape whatever God's hand or purpose intends for us. We should be grateful that He reaches out for us to return. The parable of the wind, the earthquake and the fire in today’s text is to teach us the futility of seeking God when we have actually estranged ourselves from Him: i.e. when we fail to position ourselves in the pathway of duty. Today, there are so much noise about programs, conferences, revival meetings and prayer mountains for which claims of God’s fire and mighty moves are made; but God is not in the noise. All God wants is for us to heed His still small voice calling us to return from all our distractions. He wants us to return to the pathway of duty. Therefore, let us go back to the pathway of the doctrines of the apostles; pathway of love by which all may know that we are His disciples; pathway of holiness without which no man shall see the Lord; and pathway of prayer. Let us go back to the command of our Lord to “go ye into all the world and make disciples of all nations.”
Quote for the Day: “God is a terrible fisher: His nets reaches beyond the surface to the bottom of the Sea, and even to the bottom of the fish belly so that when we think we escape sometimes and somewhere; He gets us anywhere and everywhere.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: O Lord God of heaven and earth, where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there. I resign all to you O Lord, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
