Today’s Text: Matthew 12:33-37
Key Verse: Matthew 12:34 (ESV): “You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”

Our today’s text features how Jesus rebukes the Pharisees as a wicked generation because they were living a corrupt, evil and poisonous lifestyle. They (the Pharisees) are a Jewish religious party that flourished during His (Christ’s) days; but which reacted to Him with incredible hostility. They have gained popularity and wealth on the pains of people and therefore their attitude towards Christ who is liberating them bodily and spiritual is not funny. They sought to have Jesus arrested; tried to stone Him; and even wanted to kill Him.
Reading of the eyes through which the Pharisees see the truth, the people, and the Christ prompts one to ask: why would so called religious people feel, speak and act the way they did with such hostility toward people and God’s Anointed One? That is why Jesus rebukes them as brood of vipers. Unfortunately, there are people today that also claim they know and love the Lord; but that are motivated towards others in the way of the Pharisees. They see other men different than them through a suspicious and jealous eyes.
If the only things you see are people’s deficiencies rather than their worth before God; or you are one who lays heavy burdens on people; get uncomfortable when you see them successful and profoundly popular; act under the influence of the spirit of disdain and scorn towards godly people; then you need to know that you are seeing people through the eyes of the Pharisees rather than the eyes of Christ.
Quote for the Day: "A man’s heart is like a fountain while his words are the streams. No way to be a corrupt spring if the heart were a redeemed fountain.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, let nothing but the salt of Your grace flow through me and season my senses so that I can be a blessing as not a curse, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
