Singleness of Purpose

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, April 27, 2022

Today Text: Malachi 4:1-3

Key Verse: Matthew 6:22 (KJV): “The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.”

ree

One body, two delicate sockets. But all the needed and necessary light that must come as though those eyes were not a pair. There must not be a shade of confusion in the light our eyes bring to us, otherwise, our lamps are confused and the body then receives a double, unstable, distorted, misleading, and confusing vision. The sockets are twin, but the is one. To serve the body, the eyes must form a single image between them for the human body to see clearly. Otherwise, the person sees double, loses focus, and/or suffers the worse—i.e., become blind. Yes, yes, the genesis is of all blindness is disunity between the sockets.

Friends let us learn from the power of unity of purpose, and singleness of mind. No matter the flood of lights and all its blazing brilliance, the only thing that brings its beauty and usefulness to man is the unity of the eyes. Great lights are not different from darkness when the eyes give up their union. This is Jesus’ physical analogy of our spiritual disposition when we fail to maintain singleness of purpose. In the body of Christ, an individual believer must nurture a simple conscience and singleness of heart to live in clear conscience. Things fall apart in the body of Christ, and in a person's life when influenced by conflicting spirits. Success is easier and results better when the purpose is the same.

Quote for the Day: “Keeping life simple, its focus single, and conscience clear is perhaps man’s greatest untold secret of success.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I pray that You would quiet my heart from confusing noise from within or without. Please strengthen my inner man to pursue a single purpose — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
