Today’s Text: Ephesians 6:10-18
Key Verse: Ephesians 6:10 (ESV): “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.”
As Christians, the more we realize that our source of strength is Christ, the stronger we become, and the more we are able to stand firm. Our strength is never in ourselves. In reality, a Christian may never attain needed strength in Christ except he realizes his own weakness; and is driven to depend more on the strength in/of Christ. An awareness of personal weakness motivates the awareness of our strength in the Lord. But it’s even worse if we only know our weakness, and fail to know the Lord’s strength. To be strong in the Lord, every believer in Christ must know (understand, appreciate and appropriate) the strength of His might.
While Satan is no doubt a powerful foe, many Christians seem to forget he is only a creature of God, and his powers are so limited, and cannot in anyway or by any means compare to God’s almighty power. Unfortunately , we all arrogate more powers to him than he has. This is why many despise the power of God who is the eternal, almighty Creator of the universe. The same reason too many Christians walk in defeat rather than victory. From generation to revolution, the Bible, heavens, earth, the firmament, and all created things proclaim the mighty power of God.
All through Ephesians, Paul elucidated extensively on God’s great power towards us through the way he raised Jesus from the dead and enthroned Him at His right hand. But he knew that many of us do not realize how that power works in/for us; so he had to pray in Ephesians 3:17 that we would excel in that knowledge. His consistent emphasis on knowing the Lord is because we cannot be strong in the Lord and stand firm if we don’t know His strength. Beloved, we have all witnessed God’s power in many practical ways in our lives, so let us strengthen our faith in—and knowledge of—the Lord’s mighty strength.
Quote for the Day: “Three things make us stand firm and strong—our sense of need for God, our knowledge of His mighty power, and our trust in the same.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please deliver me from deadly undertow of self-reliance so that I am never ashamed to seek, find and trust your strength — like a child trusts his father, strength in every breaking wave — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my Love and Prayers,
