Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, December 19, 2021
Today’s Text: Matthew 2:1-12
Key Verses: Matthew 2:9 (ESV): “After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was.”
No one who keeps eyes on the Star of Bethlehem will ever miss his destination. The wise men from the East have this kingdom lesson to teach us. Following Jesus; we can never miss our way. Why were they called Wise Men, and why did they follow the star? They were men who possessed a special insight and knowledge about stars. They knew that this particular star was different. They were sensitive to the leading of God, and with that: no one could ever go wrong.
The star that appeared to them was a type and manifestation of the Son of God; whom any man who follows Him finds direction and life. The Magi’s journey took them more than a year; yet they kept their eyes on the Star. There were rough, lonely and dangerous paths they had to cross, yet they kept their eyes on Him till they made their way to Him. Friends, let us not be distracted by this season’s many distractions—be it festivity or felicity; pandemic or sindemic. Let us learn from these few wise men. Let us keep a single focus on our star. Let us go nowhere but where He will lead; and do nothing but what He will instruct.
God is still in the business of leading men to Jesus. The reason we are here is to seek, know, and follow God’s will in our lives. Jesus is the Star of Bethlehem: finding Him is life. It is a wise thing if you look away from those distractions and trust God to lead your way to Jesus. He led the Magi. He is willing to lead you to Jesus. Just as the Star served to guide them, and led them on to worship; He will also lead you if you keep the needed focus on Him. He is not Santa Clause. He is not Father-Christmas. His name is Jesus. Would you follow Him?!
Quote for the Day: “Christ’s unseen ray descending from heaven to the place where we find and worship Jesus is only perceived by men whose hearts are set upon Him.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please lead me to Your will. I want my feet to follow where You will lead me; and my life to look just the way You want it. Lord, lead me in Your path of righteousness. Give me wisdom to discern Your will for my life — in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D
