The Sting of Vengeful Spirit

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, March 29, 2021

Today’s Text: Romans 12:17-21

Key Verse: Romans 12:21 (NIV) — “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

Although God did not create man to be vengeful creatures; revenge has crept in to the very core of our nature due to the fall.

We have all felt the sting of vengeance one time and/or way or the other: whether when they plot it toward us, or we are the plotter. And whichever side one is, the sting of vengeance is always as poisonous. Unfortunately, we now live in an age in which our culture now promotes such sayings as: “do not get mad, get even!” We think revenge will make us feel better. An aphorism that assumes that revenge makes us right a wrong, or at least makes us feel better.

But , in this scripture text, God warns us that infliction of vengeance is not a sign of strength. No. Rather, it reveals a succumb to the weakness of the seed of bitterness. That’s the corner to which self and ego put us. But we can gain victory over self, and its dominion over us if we learn Jesus example of peace and love in the face of unfair treatment. It is not going to be easy; but it is definitely nobler. It is not only going to bring better results; but will also be much more effectual way to victory over the evil or injustice moving us to vengeance. This text is teaching us the better way to disarm our enemies, turn they into friends, win them over to Christ, or at least walk in Christlike peace.

Quote for the Day: “Christians are held up to standards that the world can never attain.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: O Lord, let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; forbid us your children from vengeful disposition; but establish us in your righteousness, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
