The Way of Gentiles

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, May 18, 2020

Today’s Text: Matthew 10:2-15

Key Verse: Matthew 10:5 (ASV): “These twelve Jesus sent forth, and charged them, saying, Go not into any way of the Gentiles, and enter not into any city of the Samaritans.”

It’s so very easy to misinterpret this text, or take it in variance to the Great Commission. But the secret to understanding it lays behind our remembering instances in which the Lord had already told His disciples 1.) that there are sheep in other folds which are to be brought in; 2.) that there are fields white for the harvest; and 3.) that there are those who should come from east and west to sit down with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of God.

What then are in this command for us? 1.) If you are yet unfitted and immature in your thoughts and walk; how shall you enter zones of subtle permissiveness?! 2.) If men of your own household were yet lost in theirs sins then how could you be fitting to enter into Christ’s yearnings after the sheep that are “not of this fold”? 3.) The way of the represent cunning craftiness of the children of this world, who are wiser than some who profess Christ, who may be easily blown away. And 4.) Believers are to first of all cultivate a robust pentecostal infusion and effusion of the Holy Spirit before jumping into tempting zones.
