Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, February 10, 2020
Our Text: Matthew 6:19–24
Key Verses: Matthew 6:21 (ESV): “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Can we ask ourselves some questions about treasure? Why is it that almost everything our age sets value on are perishable things — that decay while he hold on to them, when they are removed from us, or we are removed from them? We die to pursue class, fashions and vogues that easily pass away and get out of taste. We wound our bodies and souls because of riches that take wings to themselves and flee away.
Jesus, our Lord, spoke these words to teach us that we have no abiding treasure or city here. O how so evidently true this is in our postmodern age! We could barely sleep in pursuance of things, and we could hardly take pleasure in the treasures gained from our hard labor. We gain wealth, buy garments, take up governments, but non on these insures our life or ensure our stability and security. Are these not the metaphorical manifestation of moths and rusts? Are thieves—hassles, human, or health not robbing us of these?
The truth of today’s text is that we can never guarantee a hold on anything we possess here on earth, and so we must not let the perishable rob us of the imperishable treasures of heaven.
Quote for the Day: "No man may truly gain or lay claim on anything that is outside him; that is why no man should take lightly or lose anything that is inside him.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to set my eyes and heart on my celestial city, where true treasures lay—I ask in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
