A Piece of Meal Can Save Your Son

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, March 12, 2021

Today’s Text: 1 Kings 17:8-24

Key Verse: 1 Kings 17:22 — “The LORD listened to Elijah, and the soul of the little boy returned to him, and he revived."

Often times, we think we are doing favor to God by obeying His words or command. Meanwhile, in actual fact, we are doing ourselves a lot of favor. And the same goes for our relationship with other people. Sometimes, the kindness we need in our lives are born out of moments of goodness shown to others.

There was once a powerful, affluent and glamorous monarch who had a praise singer that followed Him everyday and everywhere. His job was simply to sing the monarch’s praise, and his daily wage never failed. But the poor praise singer would always end each outing with a particular strange remark to the king: “Any good the king does to his praise singer is to himself.”

He says this everyday years in and out until the monarch’s chieftains got pissed off about it. So, they began to poison the king’s heart against him. At last, they made the king to poison his snack on a given day. However, because the man was observing a fast, he couldn’t eat it. But hand it to the king’s son. The result is a direct confirmation of his usual unusual remark of many years: “Any good the king does to his praise singer is to himself.” And the same goes when we do harm instead .

Proverbs 11:17 tells us how “the merciful man does good for his own soul, but he who is cruel troubles his own flesh.” Can you imagine what would have happened if the Phoenician widow had chased Elijah off?! How hungry was Elijah that he must or can walk that distance of over a week to get from the brook Cherith to eat a poor widow’s little dough? We can see that God sent Elijah to bless the woman. The results give evidence to that. Your piece of meal can return innumerable blessings to you. The widow’s food supply was supernaturally replenished and sustained; her hope was redeemed from thoughts of dying; and above all, she was rewarded by the restoration of her son.

Quote for the Day: “Kindness returned is never kindness given. It’s always better.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Father, fill me with obedience and help me follow with open hands and a willing heart, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
