Be Steadfast

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, March 6, 2024

Today’s Text: 1 Corinthians 15:50-58

Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV): "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord."

Have you ever asked yourself what it actually means to be steadfast? Alice is a social justice activist who has dedicated her life to fighting for the rights of marginalized communities. Despite facing harassment, threats, and setbacks, she remains steadfast in her commitment to the cause, continuing to organize protests, advocate for policy changes, and support those in need. Even when some of her friends and allies lose faith or give up, Alice remains steadfast, refusing to let obstacles or challenges deter her from her mission. Her unwavering dedication and perseverance inspire others to join her, and together they create meaningful change in their community.

Steadfastness is the quality of being unwavering, consistent, and reliable in one's beliefs, values, or actions. It involves being firmly established, steadily persistent, and unshakeable in one's convictions or commitments, even in the face of adversity, challenge, or change. And please, bear in mind: steadfastness is not just about holding on, it's about holding on to God's promises and character, even when everything else is shaking. Just as a tree stands firm through the seasons, we can stand firm through life's ups and downs, rooted in God's love and grace.

It is not about our own strength, but about leaning on God's strength and faithfulness. Like a ship anchored in a stormy sea, we can find stability and peace in the midst of turmoil, if we stay steadfast in our trust in God. Just as God is steadfast in His love and care for us, we can be steadfast in our love and service to Him and others.

Quote for the Day: “For us Christians, steadfastness a virtue enhanced by grace. It is a gift from God, a fruit of the Spirit that enables us to remain faithful and constant in the face of adversity." (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for the gift of steadfastness. Help me to remain firm and unwavering in my faith, even when the world around me is shaking. Give me the strength to stand tall and unmovable, like a rock against which the waves of doubt and fear beat in vain. Let my heart be steadfast, trusting in your goodness and love, even when I cannot see what lies ahead. Help me to hold fast to your promises, and to cling to your presence, no matter what challenges come my way — in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
