Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, June 28, 2021
Today’s Text: Luke 10:17-20
Key Verses: Luke 10:19 (ESV) “Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.”
There is a foolishness I have found among those who go about seeking to obtain evil power to overcome evil spirits or attacks. When the Pharisees and rulers of the Synagogues opine that Jesus could not have cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the prince of demons; He corrected them that no one could overcome Beelzebub by Beelzebub. Òògùn, the metaphysical-charm in Yoruba cosmology derives its name from the idea of something so intensive and extensive, but yet not endless. By this, they Yorubas mean that òògùn extends to the limit of its enchanter’s exorcism or mysticism. Wherever the power of a mysticist ends is where another’s begins. Only God's power is omnipotent and unstoppable. And by His word, He assures us that all victories over any level mysticism or Satanism is possible and obtainable in and through Jesus Christ.
A single Christian carries upon himself a most incredible and potent source of power than all witchcrafts put together. Jesus overcome all powers of he devil by the Spirit of God, and has given us the same spirit, and the same authority. This power is not given to us for the sake of spiritual pride, which has been the destruction of many. No, but it is given so that we may tread on serpents and scorpions and overcome all powers of the enemy. God gives us this power to preserve us from danger. The enemies we face are like poisonous reptiles. They are everywhere we turn. Snake represents the henious works of manipulation and corruption. And scorpion represents bitter and malignant enemies. Together, they represent darkness and death. All these are unleashed to hurt us by all means; but God keeps us from all their darkness and harm.
