Today’s Text: Ephesians 4:17-24
Key Verses: Ephesians 4:23 (AMP) “And be continually renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh, untarnished mental and spiritual attitude].”
Who among us never prayed Paul’s “O what a wretched man I am” kind of prayer?! I guess we all have to deal with the shadow of the adamic nature. We all carry the seed of sin: the worse of sinners does, even as much as the best of saints. There is that nature in every human that can turn a normal rational person into an out of control monster. It is that monster that keep us from doing that which we know is right. It destroys relationships, abuses grace, boasts, manipulates, spews threats, shys away from truth or tells lies, crafts evil, speaks or thinks hates, works iniquities, and alienates us both from our relationships and from God.
Believers are redeemed but that monster is still there. They still have the tendency to continue to live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. That is because the monster called sin is under. We must continue to renew our inner man by the word of God each day to subdue the indwelling sin, which is believers’ other nature: i.e. the source of all the devastating thoughts and demeaning actions. O thanks be to God, who helps us keep it under control when we daily yield ourselves to Him. He helps us deal with the hate and angry feelings. He puts the adamic emotions that destroy under. As we walk with Him daily, Christ helps us identify and mortify our besetting sins.
A man may be so religious and learn all systems of theology and yet live under the control of that monster called sin. But anyone who learns Christ by daily sitting at His feet and drinking from His fountain of truth finds the way to new and eternal life. We learn Christ’s life through our daily fellowship with Him; and that’s how His truth sets us free and change the monster of sin into His messenger of peace. Our minds are renewed daily as the knowledge of Christ shapes our actions. That is how we change the monster within and take on the new ways of humility, fidelity, benignity, purity, simplicity, generosity and charity in Christ.
Quote for the Day: “The practical reality of a Christ filled life is the daily dying with Christ, and the mortification of all the tendencies of adamic nature.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, my prayer this day is for you to create in me a pure heart, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Mortify the seed of sin from my innermost part, and grant me a right and willing spirit, in Jesus' name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D
