Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, September 2, 2021
Today’s Text: Mark 2:13-22
Key Verse: Mark 2:17 (NIV): “On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Many of us have been hindered because we believe the devil’s lie that our past disqualifies us from participating in God’s plans. It is part of Satan's lie that God only works through or only allows people who have it all together. Lie! Nobody has it all together, friends. The Bible’s position on this is that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. But we can be grateful that God redeemed us from anything whatsoever that hinders us. He specializes in taking our messes and making a miracle out of them. When Jesus was describing His purpose in Luke 19:10, he said: “For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.” The reason for the gospel covenant is your guilt and mine. That is why He calls on all who are tired under the labor of sin and are heavy laden to come unto Him. Therefore, coming as we are is how we find mercy and grace. That is how our shattered lives are remolded and filled so that we become trophies of His grace.
Friends, when you remember Bible heroes and try to glamorize their character, just remember that they were all fractured and fallen as we were before the love of God appeared to us. Therefore, the best good any man can do himself when the gospel looks towards him is to get where the gospel looks. You will then be in your right place. For Jesus is not looking for hypocrites or else He will not find you. He is not looking for perfect men or you are disqualified. Come as you are. He knows you are lost, tired, broken, and helpless. But He is the physician: He will find, fix, mold, heal and help you. Come to Jesus by faith. Come by true repentance. Come in your lostness and humiliation of sins; and in Christ, you shall find hope, mercy, healing, and pardon. For this same purpose, He came. He will not reject you. Remember the tax collector that could not bear to come near; but stood at a distance and would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.” Jesus tells us that “he went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (Luke 18:13,14)
Quote for the Day: “The gifts of the gospel are pardon, justification, and sonship. These would not have been necessary if men were not fallen, depraved and lost in sin.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I come just as I am to You whose blood can cleanse my every spot of sin and make me white as snow. Have mercy on me and heal my heart and life, in Jesus' name. Amen.
