Cornelius in the Mind of God

Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, April 21, 2023

Today’s Text: Acts 10:1-8

Key Verses: Acts 10:2 (ESV): “A devout man who feared God with all his household, gave alms generously to the people, and prayed continually to God.”

We have been warned not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For there is no partnership between righteousness with lawlessness; or fellowship between light and darkness. And we sure know how indeed it sucks to associate with bad a guy like Cornelius — a man who was not just a gentile, but a corrupt officer by all standard. However, when it comes to Kingdom agenda, God views that Cornelius around you with a different lens. Yes, he eats and drinks wrong things, hangs-out with wrong people, has no regard for the name of the Lord, and leads a totally unclean life. But God wants you to take a second look at him, and you would find him just helpless—having being sold as a slave to the emptiness of religious devotion—whom God is not willing to let perish.

Look around today’s Cornelius: they have been full of religious exertions—fasting, praying multiple times daily, they fear God with their household, and give alms generously to needy people. But how shall he be saved except God’s angel (messengers) reach out to him. How shall they understand the futility of religion except God’s Peters go out there to find him. O Peters of God! Countless Corneliuses are seeking and waiting for you. Rise up, give up every shade of prejudice, and tell them about Jesus. They already have some forms of godliness; what they need is the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is the power of God to save.

Quote for the Day: “God loves the despicable, despised, downtrodden and discarded people. He rescues the destitute and loves the labeled. They nailed him; but he prayed for them.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, our world is filled with chaos and confusion; religious people are even further from your truth. Please help me, Lord, to make a difference by sharing the love of Jesus to the most unreachable men — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.

Your Darling Bishop (DaBishop)
