Today’s Text: Nahum 1:8-15
Key Verses: Nahum 1:9 (ESV): “What do you plot against the Lord? He will make a complete end; trouble will not rise up a second time.”

We may all be familiar with “Hands up, drop your weapon” kind of command in real life policing and m/or in movies. I believe this text is the same command, spiritually. This prophecy came at the time when Assyrian empire known as Ashurbanipal was at the height of its glory. Nineveh was the capital, and it flourished because God’s people fell into sin and God had delivered the ten tribes of Israel to their hands. But then, they were gunning for Judah. And God raised Nahum up to prophesy that He will not give Judah up to them. No, He will not continue to punish his people. Instead, it is time to turn around and go after them—His boastful weapon of punishment against His own people. Psalm 30:5 says, “His anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime.”
Well, don’t you ever be so excited when you’re a whip in God’s hands against any of His own. Nineveh rejoiced at the failure of God’s people and took advantage of it. This scripture warns that you should never do that! Because God is coming back for you. Don’t be happy to be a part of God’s punishment for any of His men. Remember what God said: “I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands. But my love will never be taken away from him…” (2 Samuel 7:14,15). Nahum’s warning is for you: all enemies of God’s people are enemies of God; and any plot against God’s people is a plot against God. So, why not hand off/up and drop that weapon. It is total foolishness and futility to plot against God. He added.
Quote for the Day: “Don’t laugh when your enemy falls; don’t gloat over his collapse. GOD might see, and become very provoked, and then take pity on his plight." (King Solomon - Proverbs 24:17,18)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I ask You for divine help to overcome those moments of temptation to be happy over my enemies’ suffering. Let Your love be shed abroad in my heart, and forgive me for any way I am not walking in love — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
