Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Sunday, May 18, 2025
Today's Text: Romans 10:10-18
Key Verse: Romans 10:17 (NIV): "Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ."

Every seed holds within it the potential for a mighty plant. Its embryo is a small unnoticeable part but it contains all the cells needed to grow into a mature plant, including the roots, stems, and leaves. However, it remains dormant until it is planted and nurtured. It is in the same way that our faith, which is the vital seed of our lives as believers, blossoms as we hear and engage with the Word of God. "Faith cometh by hearing" reveals the crucial role of the spoken and proclaimed message of Christ in building faith. The same way as we need consistent watering and sunlight to nourish a seedling, our consistent exposure to and reflection upon God's Word nourishes our faith.
The starting point is hearing; but it is not enough by itself. A seed that falls on rocky ground may sprout briefly but will wither away, not having deep roots. That is how mere hearing without understanding and applying God's words with receptive heart can not yield lasting faith. We must hear with attentive listening, and be willing to learn and obey. This is when the internal work of the Holy Spirit takes effect and helps the word to take root and grow within us, carrying the power to transform hearts and ignite faith.
Sadly, the noise of the world often drowns out the still, small voice of God. Distractions, worldly philosophies, and the clamor of our own desires can hinder us from truly hearing and internalizing the message of Christ. Therefore, to cultivate genuine faith in this untoward generation requires intentionality. We must create space to hear God's Word – through scripture reading, attendance to preaching, teaching, worship and fellowship with other believers. It is in these moments of focused attention that the seed of faith can find fertile ground and begin to flourish. No doubt, we live in a world filled with noise, but it is essential to tune in to the voice of God through His Word. As we listen and obey, our faith grows, and we experience the fullness of life in Christ.
Action Steps: Make it your regular habit to read and meditate on Scripture to nurture your faith. Share the message of Christ with others, that they may also experience the growth of faith. Pray for a deeper understanding and application of God's Word in your life.
Quote for the Day: "The power of faith is ignited when we listen to and embrace the teachings of Christ. It buds, sprouts, grows and blossoms when we hear, embrace, and live out God's Word." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Let Us Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of faith that comes through hearing Your Word. Help me to listen attentively to Your voice and apply Your teachings in my life. Strengthen my faith, Lord, and use me to share Your message with others — in Jesus's precious name. Amen.
