Today’s Scripture Threshing for Saturday, April 13, 2019
Today’s Text: John 4:1-15
Key Verse: John 4:15 (ESV): “The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.”
So many things stand on our way of getting past our “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?;” our “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with...;” and our “Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself” on to our moment of “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.”
If we met Jesus at the well, we must be careful to see beyond the natural — otherwise His tired look will send us away. His disciples dwelt on this outward, and left him in search of physical food; thus, they missed out of this great spiritual encounter. We must be careful not not judge by accent or appearance — lest we miss our golden moment of opportunity. The woman almost did: She said, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” and He rested by the well.
By all means and standards, our subject matter is a subtle robber. We must sharpen our spiritual antenna against any shade of familiarity spirit that puts the Holy as if it were just at our beck and call.
Quote for the Day: “Familiarity on our spiritual pathway is like straying from a guided course; nothing wears us out more quickly. The same way as every way that is out of the way wearies our journey; so does the spirit called familiarity.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord, keep me in focus. Let me not casualize your holy things. Blind my eyes to distractions and set my focus on your holiness and grace—in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my Love and Prayer,
