Fret Not Thyself

Today’s Text: Psalm 37:1-11

Key Verse: Psalm 37:1 (ESV): Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers!”

When I was a child, one of my greatest untold innermost quest was what on earth is the root of evil and how can one possibly overcome it? Unfortunately, the more I grow the more the idea and reality of evil continues to evolve and grow. Evil is real. The devil real. And evil doers are real as well. And sometimes, it always seems to us that evil or wicked men usually have the sweet portion of earth’s juices. But today’s scripture warns us not to worry or be perplexed about these mysteries of God's providence. Even if the lot of the wicked seems more easy, more pleasant, more prosperous than yours, yet they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. God wants you to know that the little that a righteous man has is better than the many riches of the wicked. As God's people, we are infinitely better off. With God as our everlasting portion, each of us is more blessed than a thousand ungodly with flamboyant assets put together.

So, when we see the riches of the ungodly appearing flaunted with all forms of noise and parade; we must remember not to marvel at it. We must not be tempted to think that they are happy or blessed. Because true blessings only flow, grow and abound in Jesus Christ alone. Any contrary thought make us weak, vulnerable, and prone to think, be or act like them. We are therefore warned that outward prosperity fakes itself and easily fades away. Let us therefore rejoice in hope as we look forward with an eye of faith—though our weeping may be for the night but our joy comes in the morning; whereas the wailing of the wicked comes with the morning, and unfortunately are everlasting. While we have found the life of God, those who live life as if it consists in its abundance, already lose their souls to pleasure.

Quote for the Day: “Life is not about convenience. It is about delight in God and desires for His word.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer:  Dear Lord, please inflate my heart with righteous desire of the godly. Stir me to know, love, and serve You. Help me to commit my ways and cast my burden of care upon You — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayers,
