Today’s Text: Luke 12:22-40
Key Verses: Luke 12:35 (KJV) — “Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning.”

Among the many blessings to remember about Southwestern Seminary, my alma mater, and perhaps, the largest Seminary in the world is Dr. Dorothy Patterson’s initiative called Dressed for Service. Dorothy is the wife of Dr. Paige Patterson, a renowned professor of theology, and erstwhile President the school. Dressed for Service is Mrs. P’s annual program of motivating wife of graduating ministers to be ready for the honor and challenges of ministry. Each year, she uses her stewardship of influence to raise enough money to put new outfit on every wife of the school’s graduate. Her goals include appreciating the ladies for being the worthy spur and support needed to keep their spouses through academic rigors; and to remind them the injunction of today's text, do they may continue to: ”be dressed for service and keep your lamps burning.” We shall be looking at the biblical concept of girding the loins in the light of dressing for serving and showing forth our light today.
Today's text reminds us of the brevity of life and the termed nature of our opportunity. We bear perishable frames, which is only allowed to last for a single term of life, which of course can not be determined by us. Therefore, before our loaned frames begin to waste and wane; or taken away from us, we must make sure we dress it as adequate for purpose. While we may, and while it is day, our powers and strength must be deployed; our opportunities must be used. Our lights must so shine before all men (male or female) to push back the frontiers of darkness in the world. That is our chiefest spiritual and natural stewardship of our body and strength. Perfume it if you may, no problem; adore it with robes, and that is okay too; but be aware that an account is open of whatever you do in the body. You owe to God the stewardship of your body, a responsibility deeper than the sensual adornment; but of service and profitability of which we shall all have to be reckoned.
Quote for the Day: "We are daily getting closer to our salvation than when we first began, we must shed everything on us which are not consistent with the purpose of our existence.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord, make me a worthy steward of the body you have given me, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
