God’s “Let” Diary (Part 15) — Let the blessing Come

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, June 24, 2020

Today’s Text: Deuteronomy 33:8-11

Key Verses: Deuteronomy 33:16 (KJV): “And for the precious things of the earth and fulness thereof, and for the good will of him that dwelt in the bush: Let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the top of the head of him that was separated from his brethren.

Today, people seek blessings rather than an encounter with the Giver of the blessings. Indeed, not many religious folks are able to trace their root anymore to a definite and genuine place of divine encounter. But in this text, Moses is both able to keep his spiritual encounter at the bush in connection with those of Joseph, and with the prophetic blessings that flow from such divine moments. Joseph’s blessing is associated with his dwelling in the bush. This is an allegory of his being separated (Hebrew nâzîr) from his brethren, and a similitude of Moses’s encounter with God at the burning bush.

We are not only blessed in the cities, palaces, mega churches and places of power; but as with Joseph, Moses and other Patriarchs, true blessings are released when we are jolted out of our comfort zones to places where God is able to reach and deal with us. For Joseph, this means a separation from his brethren and being soled into Egypt. Through the ages, God’s people have had to go through diverse bushes of life where God fine tunes them. It does not matter if you call it waterloos, wilderness or perched-land experience; whatever it is, we all must face our different purifying fire of God before we are ready for His assignment and for the blessing.

When you face God’s fire, you cannot get consumed no matter how fierce it is. God sends His to gain our attention and attract us to His blessings. Daniel was not devoured in the lions’ den. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego did not burn in the furnace, though it was made ten times hotter. Instead, through those moments of separation and testings, God’s blessings come upon our heads. Are you passing through momentary trials and feel separated for some affliction today? Don’t give up. God takes His men through the furnace to purify and qualify them for His purpose so that after making them fit for His purpose, His blessings may come upon them.

Quote for the Day: "God does not always make His men in kings’ palace. But, often, in crooked paths, needing straightening; desert places, needing watering; and in mangers, needing cleaning.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: LORD, broad or straight, thick or thin, please take me to the place where You make Your men. Plug me into true blessings, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
