Today’s Text: Deuteronomy 33:8-11
Key Verses: Deuteronomy 33:24 (NIV): “About Asher he said: "Most blessed of sons is Asher; let him be favored by his brothers, and let him bathe his feet in oil.”
Take the eyesalve and anoint your eyes, and come with me, and let us look intently into the three fold blessing of Asher, the 8th son of Jacob and 2nd that Zilpah, beget to him in Paddan Aram. Cultural to the Jews, and by his hierarchy of birth, he cannot be declared most favored of sons. But, this blessing brings us to the place of parental impact upon a life. Spiritual or biological, there is a divine prophetic authority upon parents. There are three dimension of blessing in which Asher must walk for the rest of his destiny — 1.) He will be most blessed of sons; 2.) He will be favored by his brethren; and 3.) the extent of the blessing will be so much as represented by a figure of speech: to dip and bath his feet in oil wealth.
All these blessings are born on the wings of the name his parents proclaimed over him at birth. Such fertility and inheritance are released when we are deliberate in making positive parental proclamation through names and words offered to our seeds. Let us perceive this wisdom in this recorded confluence of biology and spirituality through Moses. No doubt, names invoke your belief, expectations and prophecies over your children. Asher in Hebrew means favored, happy, fortunate or blessed. Our allegiance is no more to Egyptian Magic and African Mysticism but we know that they do believe that certain names give man some advantages over the spirit. That is an antitype of biblical revelation of Areopagus unknown god, which Paul reveals is Jesus (Acts 17:23). In the beginning Adam manifested this dominion over creatures at large in the fact that whatever he called them was the name thereof. We too must become intentional and spiritually alert as we name our children.
Quote for the Day: "The name of Jesus not bestows, invokes and inputs spiritual and physical blessing; but it also redeems every other name from the curse.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Father in Heaven, I thank You for given us Your Son whose name has been given to us so that we may be saved. Thank You for the salvation and the blessing in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
