Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, July 1, 2020
Today’s Text: 2 Samuel 2: 1-32
Key Verses: 2 Samuel 2:7 (KJV): “Therefore now let your hands be strengthened, and be ye valiant: for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah have anointed me king over them.”
As we rejoice for the gift of a new month, the spirit of the Lord is once again revisiting the theme of courage and strength in Christ. We serve the omnipotent God, and so we are not allowed to be weaklings. But while that is true, the different existential limits to our strength are also real. The men of Jabesh-gilead were strong, bold and courageous enough to rescue the bodies of Saul and his sons. But the shame and defeat they shared from their fallen heroes was weariness to them. In like manner, we are also often faced with defeating and depressing situations. In fact, more than it was for these men, the admonition of David is even more relevant to us today.
I like us to share a story of perhaps the most courageous man of the fourth Century B.C. He was Leonidas, King of Sparta. He was set for war when one of his footed soldiers saw the advancing Persian troops. The soldier was terrified so much that his hands grew weary and his shield and swords dropped down. So, he urged his king to quit the battle: “for the Persian troops were so numerous that the flight of their arrows would darken the sun.” He said. But Leonidas replied: “So much the better for us, we shall fight them in the shade of their own arrows.” That was courage! David charges us not to succumb to any voice of terror. That’s what Satan is hoping to see. But to be valiant; lest the fear of the Philistines should fall upon them. There’s been loss of job for some; loss of loved ones for others; and loss of wits and zest for most people; but this new month, God is revisiting us anew, and saying to us: strengthen your trust in me; strengthen your fellowship and your love; strengthen your personal alter of prayer — for you have no better spiritual hands today than these.
Quote for the Day: "Each natural man has the tendency to quit; but the spirit of Christ strengthen us to endure all things.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord I receive strength for victory each passing moment of my life, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
