God's Unchanging Faithfulness

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, September 15, 2021

Today’s Text: Numbers 23:13-26

Key Verse: Numbers 23:19 (ESV): “God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?”

From Abraham to the least of Patriarchs; from Beersheba to the end of Dan; from Genesis to Revelation; and yes, from generation to revolution; God's faithfulness is ever unchanging. God remains so faithful and true. Whereas, as for us, sons of men, we have all got a bad reputation. Our lives give witness to this scripture: we lie, we repent of goodwills and promises, we change our minds, we promise and fail frequently. Just look around you, or look through your mirror, you will see how close this sobering reality is. For every promise that is kept, there are several left and broken. We all waver and change, consistently irresolute and practically unstable.

We like to picture God in images we can relate with: we see Him as a father; but is He frail and fickle in the same sense as our earthly father? No. We picture Him as though He is like us in passion, in variableness, and unfaithfulness. Sometimes, we make false images of things or ourselves and pretend we've got an object we may worship. But this scripture assures us that God is stable in all His ways, and we can always rely on Him in all things. The background to this revelation is how He (God) gave Canaan to the Hebrews despite Canaanites’ stronghold of the land, despite men of Anarchs, and despite their coalition to exclude or exterminate Israel. Balak perceived that they could not physically prevail against the Jews; so he resolved to fight them by spiritual means, hoping that if they are cursed, God may change His mind over them, and abandons His promises to them. Today, we are blessed and strengthened by this revelation. God is not man. He does not waver. Hallelujah!.

Quote for the Day: “One of the greatest wonders of God's nature is His dynamic immutability. By this, we see Him as inexplicably never static, and yet never changing both in nature and integrity.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, fill me with Your knowledge, so I may walk in Your way and faithfully follow You, and trust in Your faithfulness, in Jesus' name. Amen
