Grace-filled Communication

Updated: Mar 8, 2024

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, March 7, 2024

Today’s Text: Ephesians 4:25-32

Key Verse: Ephesians 4:29 (ESV): "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear."

The Bible charges every man, especially Christians, to be true and honest. In today's text, we, have a very direct admonition to put away falsehood. The words "let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another" puts us all in an imperative mutual responsibility and relationship. We are not permitted to .. let any perverse or currupt or corrupting talk come out of our mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion. And the reason is given: that is the only way our words will give grace to those who hear us.

It's going to be a great deal in today's troubled world if each of us would give careful thoughts to keeping grace-filled communication. Ephesians 4:29 accurately reflects the holistic biblical emphasis on speaking in a way that is uplifting, constructive, and beneficial to others. It highlights the idea that our words can truly be a source of grace and blessing to those around us if we let it.

This emphasizes personal responsibility:

This highlights the idea that we have the power to choose our words carefully and intentionally, and that we are responsible for the impact they have on others. We have agency and control over our speech, and we must take responsibility of the words we speak to others. In a world where dishonesty and manipulation are often the norm, we can all be shining example of God's truth and light.

Quote for the Day: “We are artists, and our words are the brushstrokes of our souls, painting our world with the colors of our character. We must paint with kindness, compassion, and truth, creating a masterpiece of grace, love and light." (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, please, help me to be a truthful in every aspect of my life. May my words be honest and pure, reflecting the integrity of my heart. Help me to put away falsehood and deceit, and instead speak words that build up and give grace to those around me — in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
