Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, April 18 2020
Today’s Text: Judges 12:1-6
Key Verse: Judges 12:4 (NIV): "Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites.”
There are seasons of life when it just so easy for a man to offend in what he says: during prosperity and in times of adversity. That is why it’s crucial not to speak when we don’t know what to say. Like Publius, the Greek sage had said he has often regretted his speech, but never his silence."
While we navigate these difficult days, God wants us to learn from the offense of men of Ephraim, whose sense of false security led into despising the Gikeadites thought to be in despair. And, as Proverbs 18:21 warns that “the tongue has the power of life and death,” in a single day the speech of a few men brought death upon forty two thousand Ephraimites. Please guard what you say.
Quote for the Day: "I have learnt enough to know that by good or bad employment of his tongue, a man brings upon himself a woe or a wow.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord, please never let my tongue get ahead of my thoughts. Help me never to be quick to speak thoughtless words that would later be regretted or repented, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
