In Spirit and in Truth (Part Two)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Monday, July 1, 2019

Our Text: John 4:19-26

Key Verses: John 4:24 (ESV): ”God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

It’s a new month, and of course, a brand new opportunity to renew our mind and spirit. Like the woman at the well, many of us have being in close interaction with the Lord, Master and Savior, yet up to this point, have not the slightest idea that our understanding of genuine, heaven-touching and heart-changing worship needs a redress. We miss the point by mistaking worship for religion.

Like her, we often slide into the fallacy of association and location; sometimes of personality and identification. But no—for the holiness of Nazareth, Jesus birth place, and of Golgotha, his death place did little or nothing for those several thousands of people who had the opportunity to see, touch and have Him, but rather rejected, scorned, thorn-crowned, and put Him to death. Here is the paradox, wherever you are, whoever you are, and whatever you are doing, all you need, like that woman, is simple: a thirst that brings you to an end of yourself and all your arguments; give up religion, and truly embrace Jesus with your whole heart.

Prayer: Dear Lord, let me encounter You today, and let the scales and veils of religiosity and sensuality fell off from my eyes so that I can truly see You, and submit my arguments at Your feet. Amen.
