Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, December 28, 2022

Today’s Text: 2 Corinthians 13:5-10

Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 13:5 (NKJV): “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.”

We are in that season of the year when corporate bodies, grocery store owners, private businesses and investors, government parastatals, ministries, individuals, and even families are dusting their books and taking inventories. Taking inventory is also called stock taking. It involves people paying detailed attention to match item-by-item to make sure that what they have on the books are consistent with expectation and reality.

Any good forward looking entrepreneur does this regularly — but it is even more important that, at the end of each year, everyone pays deliberate attention to reconciling all life accounts and stocks so that they may close up their year on a note of balance. Taking stocks helps recover what you are owed. It helps you avoid deficits and escape the traps of debt. Friends, we are in the best time to look back on this outgoing year and take proper stock of our lives. It is time to make sure we do not have any part of our life account that is wanting or needing attention.

All year long, we have been imperiled by all forms of corrupt realism on every side, and a most seductive environment we all live in. Our vision, passion, zeal and output for God, self, family and community have been adjusted by several agencies of economics, politics and spirituality. It must suffice the apostle to call us to a life stock so that we may restore whatever ever fell short. King David took inventory of his life in Psalms 32 and realized how his sin with Bathsheba and the killing of Uriah had robbed him before God, and settled the accounts by repentance. We are to take our faith stick and make sure our account in Christ is in tight standing.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for this special time of year for us to examine our lives. Please guide me by Your Word and bring me to a greater knowledge of who You are to me, and who I am in You
