Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, April 4, 2023
Today’s Text: Daniel 4:28-35
Key Verses: Daniel 4:34 (ESV): “And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honored him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation.”
God is Sovereign. He rules over everything, everyone, and every circumstance. While we are up and down; live and die, He alone is timeless and changeless. No earthly authority should ever be unchecked or cause us to puff before God. Men who lift their hearts against God in times past lose dominion, reigns, and even their lives. Julius Caesar was powerful but he fell in the hand of Brutus. Napoleon’s reign was remarkably revolutionary but he was neutralized by Waterloo. Herod, Agrippa I, son of the Great, lifted up his heart and was eaten by warms. His son, Agrippa II harnessed lands and expanded his influence as far as Perea but was imprisoned by emperor Tiberius and later brought down by age. Our God is eternally Sovereign. He crowns kings but Himself is not crowned by any.
We can learn from Nebuchadnezzar II, the second king of the Neo-Babylonian Empire, who had lifted up his heart and was brought low to the perception of a brute beast— to live insane for seven years as a punishment for his pride and arrogance. Men who puff in their spirit are always forced to their knees. But God, who is not wishing that anyone should perish is always willing to restore the penitent. When Nebuchadnezzar lifted up his eyes in penitence to heaven, God restored Him again. Do not fade off by a lifted spirit. Remember that God humbles the proud and gives grace to men who humbly assert and honor His uniqueness, supremacy and unthinkable sovereignty. Let’s humble ourselves before the Most High, whose age, reign and dominion is timeless and endless. Let’s reference, serve and honor Him in our heart and live. Don’t wait till the eventide to humble yourself.
Quote for the Day: “A proud mortal before the dreaded Sovereign immortal God brings himself down to the place of a brute beast." (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, you govern all things in heaven and on earth and make all things new through your almighty word. Please transform and me by the power of your Holy Spirit, so that I may humbly please you, and walk in humility the attracts you grace and perfect joy — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
