Not in Vain

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, March 1, 2022

Today’s Text: 2 Corinthians 6:1-13

Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 6:1 (ESV): “Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain.”

It’s a new month! We have enjoyed grace so far in the year. But let it suffice to say that we will always need fresh grace along the way. We must bear in mind that yesterday’s grace does not suffice for today and the future. We shall continue to need fresh grace—God’s overflowing favor upon us—which we can always count on. Whether we abase or abound, we need grace. When our patience is tried, we need grace. When we have our desires, we need even more grace. We need it in tribulations, and in distresses. It’s not only true that we need grace, it is also important to rely on the grace(s) that God gives us. And it even more important not just to ask God to help us and give us grace — He will — but it is important not to take the grace of God in vain. Our attitudes in all life’s negative experiences —stripes, imprisonments, tumults, labors, etc., — test how much we understand and draw on the grace of God in our lives. Do we let the graces we are given give witness that we are a result of God’s miracle? If that situation can take you on, let it, but don’t you ever fail to keep drawing on the grace of God in whatever condition you may find yourself. That’s how, in the context of today’s text, not to receive God’s grace in vain.

Quote for the Day: “With grace, God bequeathes what we do not deserve on us for the sake of what He desires for us. When we receive such grace outside this content, context, and consequence, grace has been taken in vain.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I am eternally grateful for the incredible grace I have received, please help me not to turn away from the gracious opportunity to bear witness to your goodness in my life— in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Happy new month! With all my Love and Prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
