Our True Builder and Watchman

Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, February 15, 2020

Our Text: Psalm 127:1-5

Key Verses: Psalm 127:1 (KJV): “Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.”

We have before us today a very diverse scripture, which of course, many have misapplied in some ways; but it’s important to know that it was one of the solicitudes of the returned exiles who were burdened by the need to rebuild the temple. When they considered how they were miraculously brought back from Babylon, the difficulties they encountered in building the temple, and the incredible success they achieved at last, it is important to continually remind themselves this one thing: "except the Lord..."

What about us—when we look at where we are coming from, how we have escaped the mouth of lions, how we survived some real life wars, how we built a life, raised a family, owned lands, house(s) and firm(s)—how many of us can boast before the Lord that our hard work or wisdom brought us thus or such..? Or even if, by our own efforts or sensual wisdom, we have marred the life we built or hope to build, the love we hope to shape, or family with which we are blessed, we may still be comforted in the truth of this scripture and find an escape to/in the Lord, the true city watchman, the true life builder.
