Today’s Text: Jeremiah 17:7-10
Key Verse: Jeremiah 17:9 (KJV) — “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

We live in a world full of lies; where deceit comes from left, right and center. According to St. Paul, our ah e is now battling lying spirits whose assignment is to basically lead people astray (1Timothy 4:1). As if these were not enough, evildoers and wicked men are all over trying to deceive people with the goal of destroying them. All these are real battles against the souls of postmodern people, but we can easily tackle them. A most insidious and difficult to tackle and deal with is the enemy called self-deception. Perhaps, it is the devil’s most effective weapon against our fallen world.
Today’s text points us to the desperate nature of deceit possible in our Adamic hearts. It is so much so that we easily fool our own selves and still do not know it. That is why it is possible for an idolater to fall a log of wood by its own hands, carve it into an image, and still get misled by his own deluded heart into worshiping it as his god. That is why it is possible for a man to tuck in his God-given genitalia, dress up as a different gender while claiming and believing he the opposite gender.
Obadiah 1:3 calls on all men to return from the path of self-deception; warning that “The pride of your heart has deceived you.” No doubt, our arrogance is a major root of our self-deception. And we must remember that it goes before destruction and fall. (Proverbs 16:18) Even in the struggles of an addict; it all begins one form of self-deception or the other. Things like: “My decision is personal and won’t hurt anybody.” “I’ll only do it once.” “I’ll be careful.” “I can handle it.” Or, “I can quit whenever I want to.” In what way has the devil made you believe a lie? You can be sure he is planning to destroy you. You can escape the destructive snares of self-deception today if you let God into your heart. “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” God promised. (Ezekiel 36:26)
Quote for the Day: “Behind any self-destruction is the demon called pride, which blinds men to truth. It encourages them to pretends a he as a she, shame as honor, and weaknesses as strength.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I put my trust in you for a new heart and spirit. Please give me a heart and deliver me from deceitful spirit. I thank You for your grace, mercy and love that I don't deserve. In Jesus' name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
