Serving Others

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, February 8, 2023

Today’s Text: Philippians 2:1-11

Key Verse: Philippians 2:4 (ESV): “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

Each moment of life presents us with different challenges or opportunities to step into other’s world and come to their aid. This is especially true because we are all now living in a world where times are so difficult and we may not survive without the help of others. Everyone needs someone to be somebody. The world is totally interdependence by nature. We all depend on our environment and need other men to survive. Unfortunately, stepping out to help others brings us very difficult choices., or sometimes, pain. Yes, sometimes , choosing to help others may mean we must suffer long paying dearly for it, give up our own freedom, rights, time, comfort, money, needs, or even daily routine, etc. For instance, giving up a spare change to help someone may cost you your daily bow of apple cranberry salad, or something even more serious or sad consequences. But serving others makes you grateful, happy and fulfilled as long as the sacrifice helps and blesses someone.

Serving others is a deliberate act of doing something primarily for the benefit and goodwill of others—whether they are known to you or not. It is one of the most important commanded principles of the Christian faith. As a believer in Christ, you have the obligation to be a blessing to others with a joyful spirit by loving, caring, praying, encouraging, counseling, visiting, and supporting them whenever they need you. The admonition from the Scripture before us today is: we must demonstrate our relationship with Jesus by following His example of giving up what He deserves to serve others (us) what they (we) do not deserve. It calls for looking outside of us, and beyond our own good or needs, and striving to impact worth and value to others. Sometimes, our head is full of several bad examples or memories suggesting that our kind action might turn around to hunt or hurt us. We must remember Jesus: He chose to serve us even though it was most brutally and fatally costly to Him. At the end, He won Himself the highest honor in heaven and on earth; and paved the way of eternal life for all, who believe in Him.

Quote for the Day: “The best balance between physical and spiritual exercise is lifting weights—from off the shoulders of others. (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please give me wisdom and gentleness in how I interact with others.  Please help me become more intentional in attentiveness to others, and to your Spirit’s lead to listen to others, and serve them with respect — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
