Today’s Text: Jeremiah 48:11-13
Key Verse: Jeremiah 48:11 (ESV): “Moab has been at ease from his youth and has settled on his dregs; he has not been emptied from vessel to vessel, nor has he gone into exile; so his taste remains in him, and his scent is not changed.”

The idea of being settled has been broadened by our use over time, yet more and more people seem to be cut off from the reality of a settled life. So, what does it mean to be settled? Is it just starting to feel comfortable in a new home, job, or career? How do you feel or get settled in life? Is it establishing a routine, or getting comfortable with status quo? In a way, these are some of our state of mind and situations of life that we assume are marks of a settled life. To be settled in biblical and spiritual terms are a totally different experience. To be settled spiritually denotes fixedness in purpose and destiny. It is a condition of absolute quiescence in the will of God.
You are settled when your spiritual wine casks always undisturbed under divine help; when the economy of your received grace improve and mellow in their taste and in savoring your world; when you increase from glory to glory and walk as the light and salt which you are called to be. In the Old Testament accounts, Moab is the same spiritual brand and stock as Israel. Their ancestry of Lot, a nephew of Israel’s patriarch, Abraham. But though, they did not understand or serve Yahweh, the God of Israel, the breeze of God’s covenant blew on them and they found their settlement. If God can do it for the men of Moab, who only by association—who were even sometimes regarded as perpetual enemies of Israel—caught the wind of blessing, how much more will the Lord settle you in His covenant blessing. If Moab can be at ease, brethren, the covenant of ease can be yours in Jesus our Lord.
Quote for the Day: “Live with us. The land is before you. Settle here, move about, and acquire property in it.” (Genesis 34:10)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please give me the testimony of the settled life: a life not emptied of its oil; never shaken and never broken — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
